Are you ready for some. . .. Confirmation?!?

It's hard to believe that summer vacation is beginning to wind down.  School begins in a few weeks and plans are underway for the kickoff for our 2017-18 confirmation year.

Confirmation at TLC is a three-year faith journey where our youth learn the basis of our Christian faith in the Lutheran tradition.  Over these years, youth study the 10 commandments, Apostle's Creed, and Lord's Prayer:  dig deeper into Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism using Martin Luther's teachings in the Small Catechism.  In addition, students learn about Martin Luther and the Old and New Testaments.  Confirmation is a time for our youth to explore their faith, and (hopefully) find answers to their questions and/or struggles about their faith.  It's also a time for them to learn what it is to live in and among a community of believers through prayer, worship, service and fellowship.  It's a place where youth are nurtured and all are welcome.  Youth typically begin confirmation in their 6th grade year, but can begin later due to a variety of circumstances.

Caring adults also play a huge part in our confirmation ministry by becoming lay teachers and/or small group guides.  Guides attend class with youth and join them in their faith journey through conversation, service and fellowship.  Classes are (typically) held the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

If you have a child (in at least 6th grade) who has not yet been involved in our confirmation program and would like to enroll your child or find out more, please call the church office at 570-622-9910 and they will put you in touch with either Pastor Chris or Karen Wood, who will be happy to discuss the program with you.  For parents of students who received First Communion this past Spring, a member of the confirmation committee will be contacting you to discuss the program and to answer any questions you may have.

A Confirmation kick-off for parents and students (new and returning will be held Sunday, September 24, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  The evening will consist of food, fun and fellowship.  Parents will have an informational meeting with Pastor Chris and Karen Wood while the youth play games and get to know each other.  After the meeting and games we'll all gather in the main Sunday School room to wrap up our evening. Returning students are asked to call the church office to register for the kick off.  Please let them know how many will be attending.  It will help tremendously in our planning.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 24th.

Your confirmation committee,

Pastor Chris, Pastor Hand, Karen Wood, Judy Rile, Ed Leibel, Joan Honicker, Cindy McGeever.
